'These are mad times' - Twitter reacts as Nicholas Pooran bags another big deal, goes to LSG for INR 16 crore

Former West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran attracted a big price as he was sold to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping INR 16 crore at the IPL Auction 2023. Registered at a base price of INR 2 crore, Pooran became one of the top buys of the evening. Having been released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pooran has now found a new home for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

Chennai Super Kings started the bid at 2 crore as Rajasthan Royals joined them. Just when RR got control of it, Delhi Capitals entered the game and took it deep. The war between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals ended when the latter opted out, but that is when LSG entered and changed the entire scenario.

The wicketkeeper-batter had not been in form since he took over the captaincy duties for the Caribbean side, in the white-ball format. After a humiliating T20 World Cup 2022 season, where the West Indies failed to make it to the Super 12, Pooran took a big decision and stepped down from the captaincy role.

Since then, he has put up game-changing performances at franchise-based league tournaments. He performed brilliantly at the Abu Dhabi T10 League and got back into form. The KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants have strengthened their batting unit by adding Pooran to their side, and fans will be eager to see what he brings to the table.

Pooran was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 10.75 crore, making him a big purchase in the previous season too. But he could not stand up to the expectations, and as a result was released by the franchise. Even after a series of poor performances, LSG showed a huge amount of faith in him, and roped him in for INR 16 crore.

Pooran’s journey at IPL auctions had seen only an upward graph. After being purchased by Punjab Kings in 2019, for INR 4.20 crore, he received INR 10.75 crore in 2022, followed by INR 16 crore in the most recent auction. LSG fans will have high hopes from the wicketkeeper-batter as the franchise aims to claim their maiden title.
