'They are not interested in fielding at all' - Twitter slams Indian players for dropping three catches during 1st ODI vs SA
Team India dropped a total of three catches.
Team India was sloppy on the field during the first ODI encounter being played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow as they dropped a total of three catches and were duly punished as well.
The visitors after having a scratchy start with the bat bounced back well and posted 249 runs in their allotted 40 overs. Senior batter David Miller took full advantage after getting a reprieve as he smashed unbeaten 75 runs in just 63 balls. Miller found an able partner in the form of Heinrich Klaasen who scored unbeaten 74 runs. Notably, Klaasen was also dropped by Mohammed Siraj during the death overs.
Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Siraj shelled catches during the first innings
At first, opening batter Janneman Malan was given a chance by Gill who dropped an easy catch while fielding in slips. Thakur bowled an outside-off delivery which drew a loose poke from Malan as the ball went at a comfortable height towards Gill, but the young batter failed to grab it. However, it did not matter much as Malan was scalped by the same bowler after a few overs.
Second culprit on the list was Gaikwad who failed to cling on to a hard catch, but it will go down as a dropped chance as the fielder managed to get his both hands on the ball. Facing Siraj in the 37th over, Miller smashed a pull towards deep mid-wicket as Gaikwad quickly ran towards the ball followed by a forward dive, but he failed to catch the ball as Miller got a life.
Just one over after, Siraj was in action again, but this time he made a mess of a catch. Klaasen lofted a length delivery bowled by Avesh Khan. The ball went very high, but didn't have any distance as Siraj ran in from deep mid-wicket and had plenty of time to settle down, but then he fumbled and could not even grab it on the second attempt.
