The Indian team met with an early setback in the third ODI against Bangladesh after veteran opening batter Shikhar Dhawan was sent back to the pavilion after yet another low score. The southpaw had to make the long way back to the Indian dressing room after he was trapped in front by Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the fifth over of the match.
The Men in Blue, who were looking to avoid a series whitewash against the hosts, were invited to bat first after Litton Das won the toss for a third consecutive time in the sereis. The Indian team drafted Ishan Kishan into the team following the injury to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the previous encounter in Dhaka.
However, Kishan's opening partner, Shikhar Dhawan, who is going through a lean patch, disappointed the fans yet again. The veteran cricketer was dismissed for just three runs to his name after a close LBW call by the third umpire. The latest failure means that Dhawan has failed to reach double figures in the series, his worst return in an ODI series to date. The Indian fans expressed their displeasure on Twitter after another woeful showing from the senior Indian cricketer.
India made two changes to the playing eleven as they included young dashing opener Ishan Kishan to replace the injured Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav was also roped into the team in place of Deepak Chahar, who failed to complete his full quota of overs in the previous encounter.
KL Rahul, who is the deputy to Rohit in the ongoing limited-overs series, was handed over the reins for the third and final ODI. Rohit's participation in the upcoming Test series against the hosts is also in doubt after his thumb injury was aggravated during his belligerent yet futile batting effort in the second ODI.
Here is how Twitter reacted to another dismal showing from Shikhar Dhawan in Indian colors:
Thank u Dhawan....for all ur contributions 🥲🙃

Should be the end of Dhawan in Int'l cricket if we still are a serious team

Mehidy draws first blood as he sends Dhawan back to the pavilion! 😭
King Kohli joins Kishan on the field now!
Now if BCCI doesn't want to continue Shikhar Dhawan in ODIs, then they should give place to left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan for opening before Gill.

There's no way Dhawan gonna find a way again in the squad, has been poor for around 14-15 months now. Time for Gill

We probably saw Dhawan for the last time on duty. This appears to be the official end of his career.
