'This is the start of something truly special' - Twitter elated as Ishan Kishan notches up fastest-ever ODI double-century
Ishan Kishan ended up scoring 210 runs in 131 deliveries before being dismissed.
One question that would be hovering over every Indian cricket fan’s mind is why Ishan Kishan was not picked for the first two ODIs against Bangladesh. Had he been given the chance, you never know, he might have performed similarly in Mirpur too. But what Ishan Kishan did in the third ODI at Chattogram came as a surprise to many.
He was at his best, literally. He missed out on a century while playing against South Africa at his home ground in Ranchi earlier this year, but left no pages unturned when he faced the Bangladesh bowlers. He dominated the show, took charge of India’s batting, and built up a beautiful innings to get to his maiden ODI century, before converting it into a double century.
Bangladesh won the toss and put India to bat first. The hosts dominated the powerplay as the Indian openers struggled to get going. India suffered a major blow when Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed early, scoring mere three runs off eight deliveries. But the game completely shifted to India’s side when Kishan got going.
The youngster took time to score his half-century but put up a masterclass to get to his maiden ODI ton. Virat Kohli, from the other end, kept rotating the strike which helped Kishan to keep his momentum going. He completed his half-century in the 13th over, got to his swashbuckling century in the 24th over, and converted it into a double ton on the final ball of the 35th over.
It was an Ishan Kishan carnage at the Chattogram stadium. He went on to create a record as he notched up the fastest-ever ODI double-century. Before being dismissed in the 36th over, shortly after the double ton, Kishan had scored 210 runs in mere 131 deliveries which included a whopping 24 fours and 10 big sixes.
The entire Indian dressing room stood up for a standing ovation as the young batter etched his name in the history books with golden words. Kohli, with whom he shared a 290-run stand for the second wicket, was overjoyed when Kishan achieved the feat as the two started dancing and did a little ‘Bhangra’ on the field.
Ishan Kishan has announced his arrival. He is in the game, and he proved that he can take India to newer and unbelievable heights. The entire cricketing community showered praises on Ishan Kishan for his monstrous knock.
