Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) was quite the eventful one. After India posted a total of 369 runs in the first innings thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy’s century, the Aussies came out to bat and aimed to maximise their lead and post a big total on the board.

Opening the innings, Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja were sent packing to the pavilion for eight and 21 runs, respectively. Furthermore, Steve Smith and Travis Head, after recent brilliant performances, were dismissed on 13 and 1 runs, respectively.

Things went from bad to worse as Mitchell Marsh departed for a duck with Alex Carey adding two runs on the board. As Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah continued their brilliance, Marnus Labuschagne and Pat Cummins stood their ground and put in a good showing. Labuschagne scored 70 runs in 139 deliveries, with the Aussie Captain adding 41 runs in 90 deliveries. With a horrid start to the second innings, the knocks of Labuschagne and Cummins stabilized the innings for the hosts.

Towards the end of day 4, Nathan Lyon stayed unbeaten on a score of 41 runs in 54 deliveries, as Australia ended the day on a score of 228 runs with the loss of nine wickets.

As for the Indian team, Jasprit Bumrah was the highest wicket-taker on day 4 with four wickets to his name. Mohammed Siraj took three wickets, with Ravindra Jadeja taking one wicket as well. Ahead of day 5, Australia's lead swelled to 333 runs and will hope that the duo of Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland will pile on some more runs in hopes of making it harder for team India.
