Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their third win on the trot in IPL 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 14 runs. The two heavyweight franchises locked horns in match 25 of the ongoing season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 18.
Upon winning the toss, skipper of the home team, Aiden Markram put Mumbai Indians to bat first. The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan handed a decent start, scoring 41 runs for the first wicket.
Green started off slow as he kept the scoreboard ticking, however, he swiftly shifted gears soon after Ishan and Suryakumar Yadav were dismissed in the same over by Marco Jansen. The star all-rounder combined with young Tilak Varma and dispatched the ball on numerous occasions to keep the innings steady.
SRH’s best bowler of the evening, Jansen too, was hammered for 21 runs off the 15th over by a collective explosive performance by the two batters. Tilak hammered four sixes and two fours to score 37 off just 17 balls before getting dismissed.
However, Green continued to play his aggressive knock and did not let the momentum die out as he whacked 19 runs off the final five balls off the 18th over, while being up against T Natarajan. He concluded with an unbeaten score of 64 off 40 balls, smoking six boundaries and two maximums, thereby helping Mumbai attain a competitive total of 192 runs.

In reply to the total, Sunrisers needed their centurion of the previous game, Harry Brook to step up and lay a solid foundation. However, the five-time winners struck early blows as Brook was dismissed for mere nine runs whereas Rahul Tripathi headed back to the dugout for seven runs as SRH were reduced to 25/2.
Skipper Aiden Markram too failed to play a captain’s knock and was dismissed for 22 off 17 balls which kept SRH reeling in the chase. However, Mayank Agarwal and Heinrich Klaasen revived the contest and helped the home team claw their way back into the chase with a 55-run stand.
Mayank got four boundaries and one maximum in his 48-run knock whereas Klaasen smoked two maximums and four boundaries in his quick fire 16-ball 36. However, Impact Player Riley Meredith got the vital scalp of Mayank whereas veteran leggie Piyush Chawla got Klaasen to put Mumbai ahead in the contest.
Meredith, Chawla, and Jason Behrendorff got two wickets each whereas Green dazzled with the ball, as he got a wicket and gave 29 off his four overs. Impressively, Arjun Tendulkar got his first scalp of his IPL career in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to win the game for MI by 14 runs. In doing so, Rohit and Co. stamped their third consecutive win of the season.
