Bangladesh women and Australia women kicked off their three-game T20I series by taking on each other in the first T20I at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday, March 31. The clash between both sides began with Bangladesh women coming in to bat first after winning the toss.

The side got off to a horrid start as opener Dilara Akter was dismissed for a duck, with Murshida Khatun scoring 20 runs in 27 deliveries. Furthermore, the top order’s subpar showings continued as Sobhana Mostary was sent packing for a duck as well.

However, it was the knock of skipper Nigar Sultana that stabilised the innings for Bangladesh women. Sultana scored 63* runs in 64 deliveries, alongside Fahima Khatun, who added 27 runs on the board, as the hosts posted a total of 126 runs in the first innings of the game.

As for Australia women, Sophie Molineux was the highest wicket-taker in the first innings, with two wickets to her name. She conceded 25 runs in her spell of four overs, even bowling a maiden over.

Tayla Vlaeminck and Georgia Wareham took one wicket each as Bangladesh lost four wickets in the first innings of the game.

Australia’s dominant batting display propels them to first T20I win

Aiming to chase down the target of 127 runs, Australia women put in a dominant display with the bat. The visitors opened the innings with the duo of Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney.

Putting the hosts’ bowling attack at mercy, Australia women’s openers were enough to propel the side to a win in the first T20I. Alyssa Healy scored 65* runs in 42 deliveries, with Beth Mooney amassing 55* runs in 36 balls as Australia women chased down the target in 13 overs, winning the game by 10 wickets, establishing their dominance in the clash early on.
