Australia crushed New Zealand with a 60-run win in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The White Ferns were no match as the Alyssa Healy-led side bossed the game and picked up two crucial points, which helped them get closer to the semi-final spot.

Batting first, captain Healy and Beth Mooney gave a good start to Australia. They stitched a partnership of 41 runs, which set the tone for the team. Mooney, who is in remarkable form at the moment, scored 40 runs off 32 deliveries while batting at three, Ellyse Perry made 30 runs off 24 deliveries. Phoebe Litchfield was promoted and she made 18 runs but after that, wickets fell like a house of cards.

Australia were in control till the 13th over but later, New Zealand bowlers made a strong comeback. Amelia Kerr was the star with the ball as she picked up a four-wicket haul, while Rosemary Mair and Brooke Halliday clinched two each. Even though New Zealand bowled well towards the end chasing 149 runs in Sharjah was a difficult ask.

When it came to the second innings, Australia bowlers were ruthless right from the start. Georgia Plimmer departed in the third over of the game and after that, Suzie Bates and Kerr tried to build a partnership. They were successful for a brief while but got out after scoring 20 and 29 runs respectively.

What happened with Australia, happened with New Zealand as well, as wickets fell quickly in the middle overs and in the end. Eight of their players ended up scoring in single digits as New Zealand were bundled for just 88 runs. Megan Schutt and Annabel Sutherland picked up three wickets each and with that, Australia picked up a massive win over their Trans-Tasman rival.

The win also helps India as it will keep them alive in the semi-final race. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side lost to New Zealand in their opening game of the campaign and now that the Sophie Devine-led side also suffered a heavy defeat, the competition has become intense but the Indian contingent will be confident now.
