Bangladesh completed a historic series victory against India after defeating the visitors in another nail-biting contest in the second ODI in Dhaka on Wednesday, December 7. Mehidy Hasan Miraz's glittering maiden century propelled the hosts to a challenging 271 in the first innings and the bowlers did the rest, surviving a late assault from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

India started the chase with the makeshift opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli as skipper Rohit Sharma injured his thumb during the first innings of the match. The promotion of Kohli to the top of the order did not make much of a difference as both the Indian openers were sent back to the hut inside the first three overs.

Washington Sundar was sent ahead of the in-form KL Rahul to arrest the slide for the Indians, but he failed to impress with the bat for the second game in a row. The dismissal of Rahul after a sluggish innings felt like a hammer blow with India in desperate need of a partnership at 65/4.

The match took an interesting turn after the introduction of Axar Patel at the crease as the southpaw initiated the counterattack from the visitors. Shreyas Iyer, who has been in terrific nick in the 50-over format this year, joined the party as well. The unlikely pair added a brisk 107 for the fifth wicket, dragging India back into the contest.

But the partnership was finally broken by the indomitable Mehidy Hasan as Bangladesh started to take control of the proceedings once again. Axar was dismissed soon after as the match started slipping away from the visitors. With India reeling in the contest, the injured Indian skipper Rohit Sharma walked out to bat. The flamboyant opener gave the hosts an almighty scare with a breathtaking cameo, but it was too little too late as Bangladesh prevailed to complete a historic series victory against India.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz rescued Bangladesh for the second game in a row with a magnificent century

Earlier in the match, Litton Das won the toss for the second game running and decided to bat first on a lively surface in Dhaka. The hosts were rocked instantly after Mohammed Siraj got rid of Anamul Haque in the second over of the match. After a brief partnership for the second wicket, Siraj rattled the middle stump of Litton Das to land a killer blow in the tenth over.

India kept chipping away at the wickets and restricted the hosts to 69/6 in the 19th over. The Men in Blue looked on course for an assured win before Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah staged a terrific comeback for the home side. The duo added a decisive 148-run stand for the seventh wicket to propel Bangladesh to a competitive total of 271 runs.

Mehidy Hasan, who completed a memorable heist in the previous encounter, registered a glittering ton to further enhance his reputation as an all-rounder in white-ball cricket. Indian bowlers failed to capitalize on their amazing start to the innings and were taken to the cleaners in the death overs.
