Bangladesh Women took on Malaysia Women in Match 11 of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium in Dambulla, on July 24. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Dilara Akter and Murshida Khatun utilized the powerplay as they managed to score 51 runs.
Akter was the first wicket to fall from the Bangladesh side, as she departed after scoring a 20 ball-33. Skipper Nigar Sultana partnered up with Khatun and stitched a crucial 89-run stand. Khatun scored 80 runs and laced her innings with ten boundaries and one six. While Bangladesh skipper also played an important knock of 62 runs and was unbeaten.
The 2018 edition winners managed to post 191 runs and lost just two wickets after their allotted 20 overs. Mahirah Izzati Ismail and Elsa Hunter were the only two bowlers to pick wickets from the Malaysian side. Posting a huge total against an inexperienced side proved an advantage for the Sultana-led side as they bagged two quick wickets in the powerplay. Ainna Hamizah Hashim and Wan Julia walked back to the dressing room after scoring a duck and 11 runs, respectively.

The middle order of Winifred Duraisingam, Elsa Hunter, and Mahirah Izzati Ismail couldn't score those runs for their team as the opposition bowlers proved very tough for them. No other Malaysian bowler could stay long enough at the crease as the former champions restricted Malaysia to a mere 77 runs picked eight wickets and won the Women's Asia Cup 2024 game by 114 runs. Nahida Akter was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball as she picked two wickets and conceded just 13 runs in her quota of four overs.

A Bangladesh women's team which once found it difficult to score 100 runs, today the same team is scoring 191/2, what is it doing in the market, even the T20 match has been made a joke among the people

Murshida Khatun will draw so much confidence from this knock. The feel of it. Malaysia has been very doormat-y. More from the field than with the ball. Little heartbreaking to watch. #AsiaCup2024
