It was a clinical bowling display by Bangladesh Women as they never let Scotland Women get ahead of the rate during the run-chase.

Match 1 of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 got off to a gripping start, setting the tone for an intriguing tournament. It was a low-scoring game which Bangladesh Women eventually clinched by 16 runs.
Despite losing just a single wicket in the powerplay, Bangladesh could only account 35. The opening pair of Shathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary survived until the 11th over but could not up the scoring rate, with the team going below run-a-ball. The innings never took off as both the batters were dismissed just when they tried step on the pedal. The track at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium was slow as expected, and the Bangaldeshis just couln't capitalise on the Scottish bowling.
Nigar Sultana tried her level best to accelarate, but was unable to. Fahima Khatum coming in at the end and striking at 200 was the only batter who played at a rate greater than a run-a-ball. Saskia Horley was the pick of the bowlers from Scotland, ending up with 3/13 in two overs.
After restricting Bangladesh to just 119, the Scottish side would have thought that the job was half done going into the run-chase. However, they found the going equally tough. On a track that was keeping a bit low and slow, Scotland could never get ahead of the required run rate. Skipper Kathryn Bryce and Ailsa Lister got dismissed for 11 each while wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce (49 off 52) had no support from the other end, with wickets falling at regular intervals.
What Bryce needed was a stable partner but other than Lorna Jack-Brown, no one in the lower middle-order could hang around. Ritu Moni was instrumental with the ball as she returned with the most economical figures on the day, grabbing a couple of wickets as well.
