Mumbai Indians Women clinched victory over Gujarat Giants Women by five wickets with 23 deliveries remaining in Match 5 of the 2025 edition of the Women's Premier League at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

The visitors were off to an excellent start with the ball, picking up the Giants' first three wickets in as many overs. With Ashleigh Gardner, the Giants' skipper, getting dismissed on the final delivery of the powerplay, the hosts were in all sorts of trouble at 28/4. With Gardner's dismissal, Nat Sciver-Brunt secured her second wicket of the evening.

With all the wickets falling about, Harleen Deol was the sole batter who seemed to have maintained composure. A couple of boundaries in the 13th over off Amelia Kerr gave some momentum to her innings. Her 31-ball 32-run knock came to an end in the 17th over, when she holed out to deep midwicket in what was Amanjot Kaur's first over in the game.

A couple of boundaries from Sayali Satghare towards the end helped to put some respectability to the scoreboard. However, the Giants ended up getting bowled out for 120. Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers with a three-wicket haul in addition to conceding only 16 runs in her four-over quota.

Mumbai's first wicket fell in the fourth over of the run-chase. Sciver-Brunt straightaway got going with a boundary off the first ball. Priya Mishra, coming off a sparkling three-wicket haul in the Giants' previous game, struck in her first over to dismiss Yastika Bhatia. Kashvee Gautam striking in her first over seemed to have applied the brakes on Mumbai's effort.

However, Sciver-Brunt continued on her merry way. Her dynamic batting took the game away from Gujarat Giants Women, who were never really in the game. Sciver-Brunt motored along to her second-consecutive fifty in the WPL. Despite the dismissals of Amelia Kerr and the English all-rounder, Mumbai managed to ace the chase in 16.1 overs.
