Twitter Reactions: Conway puts New Zealand on top after India's stunning collapse

After the entire first day of the first Test between India and New Zealand was washed out, Day 2 saw much better weather and a lot intense cricketing action between two top sides. However, the Kiwis dictated terms at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 17, by producing excellent performances with both bat and ball.

After Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in overcast conditions, it was going to be a tough task for the Indian batters to tackle the potent New Zealand seamers. Tim Southee dismissed Rohit Sharma to give the Kiwis the first breakthrough in the morning session.

As the ball swung around prodigiously, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli, who was promoted to No. 3 in the absence of Shubman Gill, tried to persevere with their defensive techniques. However, the former India skipper fell to William O'Rourke, getting a nine-ball duck. Sarfaraz Khan also departed for a duck as the hosts were in a precarious position at 10/3.

Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi stitched a 21-run partnership before the latter was dismissed. From 31/3, India were dismissed for 46, the lowest total by any team in Test cricket in Asia.

Matt Henry was the best bowler on display as he finished with excellent figures of 5/15 in 13.2 overs. He also reached 100 Test wickets when he picked up the wicket of Kuldeep Yadav. O'Rourke was also very impressive with his pace and bounce. The youngster accounted for four Indian wickets.

New Zealand got off to a solid start as Devon Conway and Tom Latham stitched a fine partnership of 67 runs. The conditions eased out and batting looked much easier as Conway took the attack to the Indian bowlers. Latham was the first New Zealand batter to be dismissed as Kuldeep got the better of him in the 18th over.

Will Young joined Conway in the middle and they added 75 and looked at relative ease against the Indian bowlers. Young threw his wicket away after getting a start as he made 33 before being out caught by Kuldeep off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling. Conway was looking good for his fifth Test century but he tried a reverse-sweep off Ravichandran Ashwin's full ball whuch slipped under his bat and cleaned him up for 91.

New Zealand finished the day at 180/3, taking a lead of 134 runs. Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell remained not out at the end and would want to help their team to extend the lead on Day 3.
