Bangladesh produced a better batting performance compared to the first ODI but it wasn’t enough once again. Opener Soumya Sarkar, who was fantastic in the Global Super League, finally managed to score important runs for Bangladesh and that helped the visitors gain momentum early on. He made 73 runs and built an important 136-run partnership with captain Mehindy Hasan Miraz.

Miraz, notably came out to bat in the third over of the game, after Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das departed for a duck each. He took responsibility in the middle alongside Soumya and scored 77 runs. Later, Mahmudullah and Jaker Ali played some brilliant cricket, scoring an unbeaten 84 and 62 runs each as Bangladesh posted 321 runs on board in the first innings. West Indies bowlers meanwhile started well but lost momentum in the middle, which Bangladesh capitalised on.

In the second innings, both Brandon King and Alick Athanaze failed to establish their authority. In the absence of Evin Lewis, Athanaze was promoted to open the innings but he scored only seven runs. The hosts were reduced to 31/3 at one stage and were under tremendous pressure but Keacy Carty played a vital knock of 95 runs. It brought West Indies back into the contest and his partnership with debutant Amir Jangoo was the highlight of the match.

27-year-old Jangoo never seemed to be in trouble as he went on to score an unbeaten 104 runs off just 83 deliveries. He looked phenomenal in the middle and can be the answer to West Indies’ middle-order woes for the years to come. Towards the fag end, his Gudakesh Motie was extremely valuable as well, as the duo stitched a partnership of 91 runs to help West Indies pick up a four-wicket win in St Kitts.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh bowlers once again had a rough day. Rishad and Miraz proved expensive and it looked like they have missed the service of Mustafizur Rahman in the middle.
