Delhi Capitals Women clashed with Mumbai Indians Women in Match 2 of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on Saturday, February 15. DC-W won the toss and elected to field first.

Right-arm pacer Shikha Pandey struck in the very first over, dismissing the dangerous Hayley Matthews for a duck. A steady partnership of 32 runs ensued between opener Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt to lay the foundation before Pandey knocked over Bhatia for 11 runs.

Out came Harmanpreet Kaur and smashed her way to a well-made 42 runs off 22 balls, scoring four boundaries and three sixes. A 73-run partnership off 40 balls between her and Sciver-Brunt allowed the batters to come next to potentially propel the innings to a high score. However, that did not happen.

All the batters to follow made single-digit scores. Sciver-Brunt fought single-handedly to finish on 80* off 59 balls, scoring 13 boundaries. MI-W were all out for 164 in the last over. For DC-W, Pandey was the standout bowler with figures of 2/14 in her four overs.

In reply, DC-W began the chase on a high note. Shafali Verma took the onus to score quick runs, making a quickfire 43 runs off 18 balls. At the other end, skipper Meg Lanning (15 off 19) gave Verma good company. Unfortunately for DC-W, both fell in quick succession. Jemimah Rodrigues could not get going as she was dismissed for two runs. The Delhi-based franchise found itself at 66/3 after 7.5 overs.

Batters to follow played important cameos. Among them, Sarah Bryce (21 off 10) and Niki Prasad (35 off 33) stood out. The pendulum was swinging all the time. A key moment came in the last over when two runs were needed off two balls. The well-set Prasad decided to go for the glory shot but was caught in the deep.

The last ball saw number 10 Arundhati Reddy chip the ball in the cover region. Harmanpreet could not reach in time to take the catch but was quick to throw at the keeper's end to effect a potential run out. The call was very close and the third umpire felt the batter had just made her ground.

DC-W won the match by two wickets in the end. For MI-W, Amelia Kerr was the best bowler with figures of 2/21.
