Meg Lanning led Delhi Capitals from the front as they registered a comfortable nine-wicket win against Mumbai Indians on Friday, February 28, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, to move to the top of the points table.
Delhi won the toss and opted to field first. Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews played watchful cricket as they helped Mumbai get to 35 inside the powerplay. Bhatia was dismissed for 11 in the sixth over, and Matthews was sent packing for 22 in the seventh.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Ameria Kerr got starts but failed to capitalise on them and register substantial scores. While Harmanpreet was dismissed for 22, Amelia departed for 17. Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani did the bulk of the damage, and an Amanjot Kaur cameo of 17 out of 10 deliveries helped Mumbai get to 123/9 in their 20 overs.
Jonassen finished with figures of 3/25 in four overs. Meanwhile, Mani contributed with a three-for, conceding 17 runs in three overs. Shikha Pandey and Annabel Sutherland chipped in with one wicket apiece.
In reply, Lanning and Shafali Verma scored freely and slammed 85 runs off just 59 balls. Verma was the more aggressive batter in the partnership, as she was dismissed for 43 off 28 balls. The right-handed batter belted four fours and three sixes during her sparkling innings.
