England Women completed an easy victory on India Women in the first T20I encounter played at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le Street on September 10 (Saturday). Spinner Sarah Glenn was adjudged player of the match for her excellent bowling spell.

Talking about the match, the home team won the toss and opted to have a bowl first. Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave a decent start to their team as they scored 30 without losing any wicket, but Mandhana had to walk back to the pavilion right after that.

After the fall of Mandhana, the Women in Blue continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Verma and Dayalan Hemalatha scored 14 and 10 respectively before skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (20 runs) was scalped by Glenn.

Some late hitting from Deepti Sharma ensured that the visitors cross the 130-run mark in their allotted 20 overs. As mentioned above, Glenn was simply excellent with the ball as the leg-spinner scalped a total of four wickets for her side and gave away just 23 runs in her four-over quota.

Team England chased down the total easily

Chasing 133 to win, team England made a mockery of the Indian bowling line-up as openers Sophia Dunkley and Danielle Wyatt stitched a 60-run partnership for the first wicket. The home side also crossed the 50-run mark during the field restrictions without losing any wicket.

Off-spinner Sneh Rana managed to get the wicket of Wyatt but batter Alice Capsey replaced her to complete the task easily. The duo of Dunkley and Capsey ensured that no further damage was done by the Indian bowling unit as they completed the chase within the 13th over with Dunkley finishing on 61* and Capsey on 32*.

None of the Indian bowlers apart from Rana manage to get any wicket. Except for pacer Renuka Singh who gave just 23 runs in her four-over quota, the rest of the Indian bowlers at least gave 10 runs per over.
