Pakistan had lost six wickets at the end of Day 4 and they were trailing behind almost 160 runs with Agha Salman and Aamer Jamal (55*) remaining unbeaten. Day 5 of the Test was all about England bowlers doing their job as they started by bowling bouncer to Jamal, who even got hit one on his helmet. The duo completed the 100-run stand and was showing great resilience.

Agha was batting on 63 when Jack Leach caught him plumb right in front of the stumps. Brydon Carse had orchestrated Jamal’s wicket but Ollie Pope dropped a half-chance running backward. He even survived a close direct hit unleashed by Pope. Leach was again in his element and sent Shaheen Afridi (10) packing as Pakistan were eight down.

Naseem Shah, who walked in as number nine, braved two deliveries only to get stumped while eying for a big shot. Abrar Ahmed had left the Test in between sighting injury concerns and that left Pakistan with no number 11 and another setback at home.

England won the first Test by an innings and 47 runs. This also gave Pakistan an unwelcome record, as they became the first team to lose a Test by an innings after scoring over 500 runs in the first innings.

For England, Leach dazzled with four wickets as Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse picked two wickets apiece. Harry Brook was named as the Player of the Match for his splendid 317 runs in the first innings. The team will tussle in the second Test at the same venue, Multan, starting on October 15.
