England finally registered their second win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they beat the Netherlands by 160 runs on Wednesday, November 08 at Maharashtra Cricket Association International Stadium, Pune. After opting to bat first, England posted a massive total of 339/9 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, the Netherlands were bundled out for 179 in 37.2 overs.

Netherlands’ chase got off to a miserable start as they lost two quick wickets of Max O’Dowd (5 off 11) and Colin Ackerman (0 off 2) with just 12 runs on the board. After the early blows, Wesley Barresi (37 off 62) and Sybrand Engelbrecht (33 off 49) tried to stabilize the innings, however, both failed to convert their starts. Following their dismissals, captain Scott Edwards (38 off 42) and Teja Nidamanuru (41* off 34) also played handy knocks, but they weren’t enough to take their team over the line.

Earlier in the day, England openers Jonny Bairstow (15 off 17) and Dawid Malan (87 off 74) got their team off to a decent start as they added 48 runs for the first wicket off 42 balls. Their partnership was broken with the dismissal of Bairstow which brought Joe Root to the crease. Malan and Root added 85 runs for the second wicket off 80 balls to help England cross the 100-run mark.

Seeing their team in trouble, Ben Stokes (108 off 84) and Chris Woakes (51 off 45) got involved in a massive 129-run stand for the sixth wicket off just 80 balls to help England post 339/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Bas de Leede was the pick of the bowlers for the Dutch with figures of 3/74 in ten overs, while Aryan Dutt (2/67) and Logan van Beek (2/88) picked up two wickets each.
