England ended their campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on a winning note as they beat Pakistan by 93 runs in Match 44 on Saturday, November 11 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After opting to bat first, England posted a massive total of 337/9 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan were bundled out for 244 in 43.3 overs as only Agha Salman crossed the 50-run mark.
Their chase got off to a disastrous start as they lost Abdullah Shafique (0 off 2) on just the second ball of the innings. To make matters worse, Fakhar Zaman (1 off 9) also fell prey to David Willey in the third over to leave Pakistan reeling at 10/2. Captain Babar Azam (38 off 45) once again gave away his start holing out to mid-wicket while Mohammad Rizwan (36 off 51) was bowled in a comical manner.

Afgha Salman held one end and scored a brilliant half-century (51 off 45). Following his dismissal, a 53-run stand for the last wicket between Haris Rauf (35 off 23) and Mohammad Wasim Jr (16 off 14) helped Pakistan cross the 200-run mark as they were finally bundled out for 244. David Willey was the pick of the bowlers for England as he scalped 3/56 in ten overs.
Ben Stokes played another heroic innings
Earlier in the day, England got off to a good start after opting to bat first as openers Dawid Malan (31 off 39) and Jonny Bairstow (59 off 61) added 82 runs for the first wicket off 81 balls. Following their dismissals, Joe Root (60 off 72) and Ben Stokes (84 off 76) got involved in a massive 132-run stand to bring England into a commanding position.
Cameos from Jos Buttler (27 off 18) and Harry Brook (30 off 17) helped England finish on 337/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan as he registered figures of 3/64 in ten overs while Shaheen Afridi (2/72) and Mohammad Wasim Jr (2/74) also picked up two wickets each.
