The second T20I of the ongoing series between India and England women saw the visitors register a dominant victory at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, December 9. After winning the first T20I, England looked to clinch the series, and the side did just that.
The clash began with India coming in to bat first after losing the toss. The Women in Blue began their innings with Shafali Varma and Smriti Mandhana coming out to bat. However, both openers were sent back to the pavilion early as Varma went out for a duck and Mandhana amassed just 10 runs.
Jemimah Rodrigues did play a resilient knock, scoring 30 runs in 33 deliveries, but the rest of the batting order could not amount to much. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored nine runs while Richa Ghosh and Pooja Vastrakar were also dismissed cheaply as the Indian women managed to score just 80 on the board.
As for England, Charlie Dean, Lauren Bell, Sophie Ecclestone, and Sarah Glenn took two wickets each while Nat Sciver-Brunt and Freya Kemp struck once each.
England clinch series with four-wicket win
Aiming to chase down a reasonable target of 81 runs in the second innings, England found themselves in trouble as openers Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt were dismissed for nine and zero, respectively. However, Alice Capsey and Nat Sciver-Brunt played resilient knocks and propelled the visitors to a win. Capsey scored 25 runs in 21 deliveries, while Sciver-Brunt scoring 16 runs in 13 balls.
England did lose some wickets towards the end of their chase, but eventually managed to get to the target in 11.2 overs and won the game by four wickets. Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma were the highest wicket-takers, taking two wickets each. Saika Ishaque and Pooja Vastrakar struck once each as well.
Let us have a look at how Twitter reacted to the second T20I between India and England:
The fact that Harmanpreet's captaincy and a potential change isn't being discussed shows how less women's cricket in India is being followed. People either don't watch, or don't care. #INDvsENG https://t.co/3LWAViRhzv

Will Women's cricket in India ever move out of Mumbai (Maharashtra)?#WPL2024

The quality of batting from both teams in this India v England women's match is absolutely diabolical. Why has women's cricket regressed so dramatically in the last 10 years while football and rugby are so good?

Bad performance by Team India. It seems like an easy win for the English Women's team here.

Wanted to see some performances from the Indian side but disappointed 😔
Good to see a full crowd in Wankadee stadium Mumbai in a women's match between England and India but management needs to put proper arrangement in place for spectators. #INDvsENGLiveMatchToday #womenscricket @BCCI pic.twitter.com/kYzsokbG4T
