Twitter Reactions: Gujarat Titans acquire Washington Sundar for steal deal of INR 3.2 crore in IPL 2025 mega-auction

2022 champions Gujarat Titans secured the services of Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar for a meagre sum of INR 3.2 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, breaching the pre-auction expectations of a bidding war for the talented player.

The auction room fell into an awkward silence when Sundar's name came up at a base price of INR 2 crore. Despite his recent impressive performance in India's Test victory against Australia in Perth and the home series against New Zealand, only two franchises, GT and Lucknow Super Giants showed interest in acquiring the Tamil Nadu-born spin all-rounder. The bidding was brief, with LSG quickly dropping out of the contest, allowing GT to secure Sundar at a bargain price.

In his previous stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad spanning three seasons, he managed just 10 wickets from 18 games and scored 161 runs in 14 innings. His overall IPL career numbers show 37 wickets from 60 games, with a batting average of 13.50 and a strike rate of 116.30.

However, in T20 internationals, Sundar has picked 47 wickets from 52 matches at an economy rate of 6.87. For Gujarat Titans, this acquisition is more than just a bargain buy. Sundar joins his Tamil Nadu teammates Sai Sudharsan and Shahrukh Khan at GT, potentially forming a strong combination.
