Opener Jordan Hermann stole the show in match No. 8 of the ongoing SA20. Batting first, Hermann and Dawid Malan stitched a 138-run partnership for the first wicket, which helped Sunrisers Eastern Cape post 202 runs on the board against MI Cape Town. The Kieron Pollard-led side looked clueless in the middle at Newlands as the surface barely supported the bowlers in the game.

Hermann, meanwhile, went on to hit a terrific century, scoring 106* runs off 62 deliveries. Malan made 53 runs off 37 deliveries before Pollard got the better of him. The veteran all-rounder was the star with the ball, as he picked up two wickets while others failed to bag even one. Kagiso Rabada looked good but Beuran Hendricks, Liam Livingstone, and Olly Stone leaked a lot of runs. The hosts used seven bowlers in the match but even so, Sunrisers looked comfortable in dealing with them.

When it came to the chase, Cape Town were in the game till the last over. Rassie van der Dussen, who played a blistering knock against Joburg Super Kings, once again gave a good start alongside Ryan Rickelton but unlike the last match, none of the cricketers could capitalise on their start. Dussen got out after scoring 41 runs off 28 deliveries while the stumper-batter made 58 runs off 33 deliveries.

After the openers were sent packing, Sam Curran tried to take control of the situation as he made 37* runs off 22 deliveries but the England international didn’t get enough support from other batters. Pollard and Connor Esterhuizen joined the party for a brief time but it wasn’t enough as Cape Town lost the match by just four runs. Meanwhile, Ottniel Baartman was sensational with the ball as he picked up three wickets in the middle. He gave away just five runs in the final five deliveries, which sealed the deal for the visiting team.

With the win, Sunrisers moved to third on the points table and will next face Durban Super Giants on January 20. MI Cape Town, on the other hand, are fourth on the points table with five points in three games and will challenge Paarl Royals next.
