India beat Bangladesh comprehensively by 41 runs to clinch the Women's U19 T20 Asia Cup title at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, December 22.
Bangladesh captain Sumaiya Akter made a brave call when she won the toss and decided to bowl first in the high-pressure final. Gongadi Trisha opened the batting and scored a sedate 52 off 47 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes, even as India kept on losing wickets from the other end. Mithila Vinod played an important cameo down the order as her 17 off 12 balls helped India get to the three-figure mark.
Farjana Easmin was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as she finished with figures of 4/31 in four overs. India finished their innings after posting a competitive total of 117/7 in 20 overs. Thanks to her half-century, Trisha became the leading run-getter in the tournament.
In reply, Bangladesh got off to a disastrous start as they lost the wicket of Mosammat Eva in the second over. Fellow opener Fahomida Choya tried to steady the ship after Sumaiya Akther also departed cheaply. Sonam Yadav provided a crucial breakthrough when she got the better of Choya in the eighth over.
Wicketkeeper-batter Juairiya Ferdous played a watchful knock as her 30-ball 22 kept Bangladesh's hopes alive. However, she was dismissed in the 15th over as Bangladesh lost half their side for 64 runs. They needed 54 runs to win from the last 34 deliveries when Ferdous was dismissed. This proved to be too much of a task on a tricky surface as the last five Bangladeshi wickets fell for just 12 runs.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 76 in 18.3 overs as India emerged victorious by a convincing margin of 41 runs. Aayushi Shukla bagged three wickets for 17 runs in her 3.3 overs. Meanwhile, Sonam and Parunika Sisodia contributed by picking up two wickets apiece. VJ Joshitha also chipped in with a solitary wicket as India became the inaugural champions.
