Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s partnership of 147 runs helped India register a 10-wicket win over Nepal in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Notably, bowling first, the Men in Blue struggled to get going as openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh gave a perfect start to Nepal. Mohammed Siraj leaked a lot of runs early on while the returning Mohammed Shami proved to be economical but failed to give a breakthrough early on.

It was once again Shardul Thakur who came into the attack and made an instant impact. The Palghar-born cricketer picked up the wicket of Kushal, who hit 38 runs off 25 deliveries. However, Aasif managed to keep the runs flowing as he hit a half-century against a quality bowling attack of India. Later on, Dipendra Singh (29) and Sompal Kami (48) proved to be impactful as Nepal hit 230 runs in the first innings.

Notably, Ravindra Jadeja was India’s star with the ball as the all-rounder picked up three wickets to dismantle Nepal’s middle order. Siraj too picked up three wickets and picked up a couple of important wickets but the ace pacer leaked a lot of runs, which remains to be a concern ahead of the Super Four.

When it came to the chase, Rohit Sharma was bamboozled a couple of times in the initial overs and with that, Nepal was very much in the game. However, rain once again played a spoilsport as the match was halted for a long period. After that, both Rohit and Shubman looked phenomenal and eventually managed to get the job done and qualify for the next round.

With that, it is now confirmed that India will take on their arch-rivals Pakistan on September 10 in Colombo. However, due to rain, the match is likely to be rescheduled to Hambantota. As per reports, there might be a reserve day for the fixture as well.
