Visiting team India got the better of South Africa in the fourth and final T20I at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday, November 15, to win the series 3-1. Awe-inspiring centuries from Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson set up a massive 135-run victory for the tourists.

Suryakumar Yadav won the toss for the first time in the series and elected to bat first. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma got their team off to a rollicking start as they stitched a 73-run partnership in 5.5 overs. The latter was dismissed for an 18-ball 36, bringing Tilak Varma to the crease. The southpaw oozed class from the get-go as he carried the confidence from his century in the previous game.

Samson and Tilak put the South African bowlers to the sword as they amassed a mind-boggling 210-run partnership off just 86 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter raced to his third T20I century in five games off just 51 balls. He eventually finished unbeaten on 109 off 56 balls in a knock which saw him hitting six fours and nine sixes. Meanwhile, Tilak got to the magical three-figure mark off just 41 balls. The Hyderabad batter smashed nine fours and 10 sixes during his knock of 120* off 47 deliveries.

The Men in Blue finished on a whopping 283/1 in their 20 overs. Marco Jansen was the most economical bowler for South Africa and his economy rate was 10.50. This validates the kind of carnage that the three Indian batters caused in the first innings.

Arshdeep Singh too hot to handle for South Africa

South Africa got off to a disastrous start as they lost Reeza Hendricks in the first over. Ryan Rickelton was dismissed in the second over before Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen departed in the third. Arshdeep Singh took three of the four wickets as he made the most of the swing on offer under the lights.

At 10/4, the Proteas were staring at a shambolic defeat, but Tristan Stubbs and David Miller combined nicely to delay the inevitable. They added 86 runs off 54 balls for the fifth wicket as Miller found his timing right for the first time in the series. However, both batters were dismissed off consecutive deliveries as the Proteas slumped to 96/6. Andile Simelane departed soon after as India were three wickets away from a series win.

Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee hit some boundaries to give the South African fans something to cheer for. Axar Patel was introduced in the 16th over, and he went on to take the wickets of Coetzee and Keshav Maharaj. Ramandeep Singh showed his bowling skills as he got the better of Lutho Sipamla to end the South African innings at the score of 148 in 18.2 overs.
