IND-W register comfortable win against Windies

India women and the West Indies women kicked off their white ball series with the first T20I. Both sides locked horns at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai on Sunday, December 15. The clash began with India women coming in to bat first after losing the toss.

The side opened their innings with Smriti Mandhana and Uma Chetry scoring 53 and 24 runs, respectively. Furthermore, Jemimah Rodrigues played a brilliant knock amassing 73 runs in 35 deliveries, alongside Richa Ghosh adding 20 runs on the board as well. 

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored 13 runs as India women posted a total of 195 runs in the first innings of the game. The hosts put in a brilliant showing with the bat and managed to post a big target on the scoreboard. 

As for the West Indies, Karishma Ramharack and Deandra Dottin were the only wicket takers with Ramharack taking two wickets and Dottin striking once as well. 

Exceptional bowling from India limits Windies in first T20I

Aiming to chase down a target of 196 runs, the West Indies got off to the worst of starts as skipper Hayley Matthews departed after scoring just one run on the board. However, Qiana Joseph’s 49-run knock stabilised the innings for the visitors. 

Shemaine Campbelle added 13 runs on the board with Deandra Dottin playing a brilliant knock, scoring 52 runs in 28 deliveries. However, none of the other batters could amount to much as India women’s bowling attack kept them under relentless pressure. 

Titas Sadhu was the highest wicket-taker for India in the second innings with three wickets to her name. Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav took two wickets each as the as India women won the first T20I by 49 runs.
