Royal Challengers Bangalore Women finally ended the franchise's trophy jinx as they beat Delhi Capitals Women on Sunday, March 17 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi in the final of the Women's Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024). After opting to bat first, DC were bundled out for just 113 in their allotted 20 overs as RCB spinners were all over them. In reply, RCB chased down the target

Their chase got off to a good start as openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine (32 off 27) added 49 runs for the first wicket off 49 balls. Their stand was broken by Shikha Pandey who got Devine lbw in the ninth over. However, captain Mandhana (31 off 39), Ellyse Perry (35* off 37) and Richa Ghosh (17* off 14) made sure there was no collapses in the middle overs and guided their team home safely in the last over.

Earlier in the day, after winning the toss in the big game, Delhi Capitals got off to a fiery start as Shafali Verma came out all guns blazing. The DC opener butchered RCB bowlers thrashing them for boundaries all over the park and made full use of the powerplay. After scoring seven runs off the first five balls, Verma smacked Sophie Molineux over her head for a maximum to get her innings going.

Sophie Molinuex's second over brought RCB back in the game

She further took on Ellyse Perry in the fifth over launching her down the ground for another maximum and guided one towards the off-side for a boundary as DC finished the powerplay on 61/0. However, things changed pretty quickly as Sophie Molineux turned the game on its head with triple strikes in the eighth over dismissing Verma (44 off 27), Jemimah Rodrigues (0 off 2) and Alice Capsey (0 off 1) leaving Delhi on 65/3 after eight overs.

The matters got worse as Shreyanka Patil dismissed the well-set DC captain Meg Lanning (23 off 23) trapping her in front of the stumps. On the other hand, Asha Sobhana got rid of Marizanne Kapp (8 off 16) and Jess Jonnasen (3 off 11) in the 14th over to leave Delhi in all sorts of trouble at 87/6. They were eventually bundled out for 113 in 18.3 overs leaving RCB fans over the moon during the innings break.
