After a washout in the first ODI, Bangladesh and New Zealand locked horns in the second game of the three-match series on Saturday, September 23 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first. The decision was vindicated by Mustafizur Rehman who dismissed both openers Finn Allenn (12 off 15) and Will Young (0 off 8) with just 26 runs on the board.
After early blows, Henry Nicholls (49 off 61) and Tom Blundell (68 off 66) stabilised the innings with their 95-run stand. Their partnership was brought to an end by Khaled Ahmed who dismissed Nicholls. Cole McConchie (20 off 33) and Ish Sodhi (35 off 39) also made valuable contributions to take their side to a competitive total of 254.
Khaled Ahmed (3/60) and Mahedi Hasan (3/45) picked up three wickets each for the hosts. In reply, Bangladesh also didn’t get off to a good start as Kyle Jamieson got rid of captain Litton Das in the sixth over of the innings. After the early blow, Tamim Iqbal (44 off 58) carried the innings forward with his steady innings and took the team past 50.
Ish Sodhi's 6-fer bundles out Bangladesh
However, Ish Sodhi brought his team back into the game dismissing Hasan (16 off 12) and Soumya Sarkar (0 off 2) in the same over. The wrist-spinner further got rid of Towhid Hridoy (4 off 7) and Tamim Iqbal (44 off 58) to leave the hosts reeling at 92/5.
Mahmudullah tried to bring his team back into the game with a handy knock of 49 (76) with the help of four fours and a six. However, he was dismissed by Cole McConchie to hit the final nail in the coffin. As a result, Bangladesh were bundled out for 168 with Ish Sodhi picking 6/39 in ten overs. New Zealand won the match by 86 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Meanwhile, X was abuzz with reactions on New Zealand’s win. Here are some of the posts:

Ish Sodhi did really well against Bangladesh. He took six wickets and only gave away 39 runs. The fourth best ODI figure ever in Bangladesh.

The third umpire checked and gave OUT! But when Sodhi started walking out, skipper Litton Das and Hasan Mahmud called him back again.
Sodhi gave Hasan a hug at the end.
