Ireland's pacer Joshua Little picked up the second hat-trick of T20 World Cup 2022 when he dismissed New Zealand's skipper Kane Williamson, James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner in the 19th over of the first innings.
Team New Zealand is taking on Ireland in their last group-stage encounter of the T20 World Cup. The match is being played at the Adelaide Oval with the Kiwis requiring a victory to seal their spot for the semi-final encounter.
Little becomes the sixth bowler to pick up a hat-trick in a men’s T20 World Cup
The left-arm pacer finished with figures of 3 for 22 in his allotted four overs. Little is the second Irish bowler to claim a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup after Curtis Campher. The all-rounder became only the third man to claim four wickets in four balls in T20Is. He achieved this feat against the Netherlands' side during the 2021 T20 World Cup.
"I guess it was a little bit of tail back into the left-handers, wanted to execute it two times in a row and I got lucky to have managed it. I think I was a bit short early on, then went a bit greedy and went full. I don't see why we can't chase this down, time for another upset in this World Cup," said Little during the mid-innings break.
Earlier in the tournament, United Arab Emirates (UAE) spinner Karthik Meiyappan became the first bowler to grab a hat-trick in the ongoing tournament. He achieved this feat against Sri Lanka during the First-Round matches of the World Cup. Meiyappan grabbed the wickets of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, and Dasun Shanaka back off consecutive deliveries.
With that hat trick, Little has now become the leading wicket-taker in the 20-over format in 2022. The likes of Sandeep Lamichanne, Wanindu Hasaranga, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are behind him.
Meanwhile, here are some Twitter reactions to Little's hat trick:

Josh Little should be finding himself in a few franchise leagues, he's not bad. A couple of wickets each against England and Australia, and now a hat-trick against New Zealand today. #T20WorldCup

Get in, Josh Little. Dismisses a set Kane Williamson, before unleashing two proper pearlers to bring a hat-trick - absolute gem of a bowler. #T20WorldCup

Josh Little………… what a terrific young man he is. Not just a terrific bowler but a brilliant young person. Leading this attack day in day out. Big shout out to @rob_cassell for all the hard work he did with Josh a few years ago and the continued work being undertaken by Eagy.
