West Indies Legends started their Road Safety T20 World Series 2022 campaign with a big six-wicket win over Bangladesh Legends on Sunday. Bangladesh Legends were bowled out on 98 runs in 19.4 overs while batting first at the Green Park in Kanpur. The left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie was the best bowler for the West Indies side, taking three wickets while conceding only seven runs. Then star batter Dwayne Smith smashed a fifty to guide his team to a big win in their first match of this tournament.

Bangladesh skipper Shahadat Hossain won the toss and decided to bat first on a batting-friendly surface at Green Park. But the decision proved costly for them as they lost both their openers Nazimuddin and Nazmus Sadat in the powerplay. Santokie dismissed Nazimuddin in the second over and Sulieman Benn ran out Sadat on just three runs.

But middle-order batters Alok Kapali and Dhiman Ghosh played some good cricket to avoid a low total. Kapali scored 19 runs off 20 balls before getting caught out on Devendra Bishoo's delivery. Ghosh smashed the highest 22 runs and remained unbeaten to put 98/10 total in 19.4 overs. For West Indies, Santokie took three, and Benn and Dave Mohammed grabbed two wickets each.

Bangladesh started well with a big wicket of Dave Mohammed in the third over, who scored five runs off five balls. But star opener Dwayne Smith and Narsingh Deonarine avoided an early fall and put a crucial 41-run partnership for the second wicket. Dolar Mahmud dismissed Deonarine in the tenth over to give some hope for the Bangladesh fans.

But Dwayne Smith remained confident in guiding his team to a victory and smashed 51 runs off 42 balls with the help of nine fours and one six before getting out on Alok Kapali's delivery. West Indies stand-in skipper Kirk Edwards scored unbeaten 22 runs off 19 balls and William Perkins smashed the winning six in the 16th over to register a six-wicket win. West Indies next face India Legends on September 14 while Bangladesh will be against New Zealand Legends on September 15.
