Bangladesh Women (BAN-W) took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series following a resounding win by 40 runs against India Women (IND-W). Notably, the two sides squared off at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday, July 16.

Opting to field first, India got off to a brilliant start with the ball as they swiftly got the breakthroughs. While Murshida Khatun headed back for13 off 30, Sharmin Akhter was dismissed for an 18-ball duck. Fargana Hoque and skipper Nigar Sultana then took the onus to revive the innings as they raised a crucial 49-run stand for the third wicket. With a two-hour rain delay, the game was reduced to 44 overs per side.

After the play resumed, Bangladesh’s miseries further compounded as debutant Amanjot Kaur put a screeching halt to the partnership, as she sent both Sharmin and Nigar packing for 27 and 39 runs, respectively. While the rest of the batting unit failed to contribute any vital score, Amanjot further dazzled with the ball, completing a four-wicket haul in her maiden ODI appearance. Further, Devika Vaidya got two wickets whereas Deepti Sharma returned with one as Bangladesh were dismissed for a paltry 152 n 43 oviers.

While it seemed that India were in pole position to win the contest, Bangladesh turned the game on its head during the chase. Marufa Akter led the bowling attack and landed the early blows, dismissing openers Priay Puniya and Smriti Mandhana. Rabeya Khan and Nahida Akter joined the party and followed suit to break the Indian middle order as Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. saw the game slip away.

Down the order, Deepti Sharma tried to show some resistance with a 40-ball 20, however, her efforts were not enough as India kept losing wickets from one end. Marufa's magnificent four-wicket haul coupled with Rabeya's three-wickets took the game away from India's reach as Bangladesh won the contest by 40 runs (DLS method).
