Bangladesh got their World Cup 2023 campaign off to a great start as they beat Afghanistan by six wickets in Match 3 on Friday, October 07 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. After being put in to bat first, Afghanistan were bundled out for 156 with Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz starring with the ball.

In reply, Bangladesh chased down the target in 34.4 overs and won the match by six wickets. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side didn’t get off to a good start in their chase as they lost their opener Tanzid Hasan (5 off 13) in the fifth over due to an unfortunate runout. Litton Das also departed cheaply as he lost his stumps against Fazalhaq Farooqi in the seventh over.

After the two early blows, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (57 off 73) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (59 off 83) stitched a crucial stand of 97 runs off 129 balls to bring their side back in the game. Miraz was finally dismissed in the 29th over, however, it was too late for Afghanistan as Shanto saw his team home.
