Twitter Reactions: Mehidy Hasan's maiden ODI century powers Bangladesh to 271 despite top-order collapse
Mehidy Hasan hit eight fours and four sixes in his unbeaten 100 off 83 balls.
A terrific innings from Mehidy Hasan Miraz alongside the support act from Mahmudullah helped Bangladesh post 271 for 7 in their 50 overs in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Earlier in the game, Bangladesh opted to bat first after winning the toss and the home side lost the early wicket of Anamul Haque who hit two boundaries in his short stay.
Litton Das was happy to take his time as the opening spell from Mohammed Siraj and Deepak Chahar was on the money. However, the Bangladesh skipper was cleaned up by Siraj in the tenth over to end his resistance. Pace battery Umran Malik made a difference straight away once he came into the playing XI.
The pacer kept rattling the batters with short pitch stuff and bowled a peach to get rid of Najmul Hossain Shanto who scored 21 off 35 deliveries. Washington Sundar’s introduction to the spell was quite fruitful as he picked up the important wickets of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Afif Hossain to leave Bangladesh at 69 for 6 in the 19th over mark.
Mahmudullah and Mehidy rescue Bangladesh
The duo of Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz kept the scoreboard ticking to build a useful partnership and ensured wickets did not fall further. Mehidy played some delightful shots to continue from where he left off in the first ODI while the experienced Mahmudullah played to the situation.
Once they got set, both batters started to flourish as Deepak Chahar walking off the field did not help the stand-in skipper KL Rahul. India still had five options in the bowling department despite Chahar’s absence but a lot of runs were leaked towards the back end of the innings. Mahmudullah perished after a 96-ball 77 to end the seventh-wicket partnership of 148 runs.
Nasum Ahmed hit some lusty blows towards the end to take Bangladesh above the 250-run mark while Mehidy reached a fantastic century on the last ball of the innings.
