Pakistan picked up a magnificent victory against New Zealand in the Tri-Series final at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Mohammad Nawaz's unbeaten 38 off 22 balls alongside Haider Ali's 31 run-knock helped the men in green chase down the target with three balls to spare and five wickets in hand.

Earlier in the game, Pakistan opted to bowl first after winning the toss and Finn Allen perished after scoring three boundaries in the very first over. Devon Conway and Kane Williamson ensured the runs were coming in the powerplay, however, Conway was removed after a 17-ball 14. Williamson looked in excellent touch and he kept finding the boundaries with Glenn Phillips (29) providing him good support.

Mark Chapman played a similar kind of innings to Phillips with a 19-ball 25 while Williamson reached a fantastic half-century in the process. The right-hander was removed after a 38-ball 59 and it was the top-score in the innings. James Neesham’s 10-ball 17 proved to be vital in the end as the Kiwis ended up with 163 for 7 in their 20 overs. Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets to his name.

In reply, the Pakistan side suffered an early blow as their skipper Babar Azam was dismissed inside the powerplay after a 14-ball 15. Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood stuck a useful partnership together despite the scoring rate being relatively low, however, the idea was to take the game deep. Masood was dismissed after a 21-ball 19 while Rizwan followed after him with a 34-run knock.

Mohammad Nawaz (38*) and Haider Ali joined hands at the crease and the duo put on a 56-run partnership in no time to bring down the required run rate considerably. While Haider went bang-bang with a 15-ball 31, Nawaz kept his composure going as things were in control for the men in green. Iftikhar Ahmed provided good support with a 14-ball 25 as Pakistan sealed a stupendous victory.
