Courtesy of their fearless approach in Test cricket, England are in the driver’s seat at the end of Day 1 of the first Test against New Zealand at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Batting first, the Ben Stokes-led side lost the wicket of Zak Crawley early but Ben Duckett managed to take control of the situation as he smashed 84 off 68 deliveries.
Ollie Pope (42) supported him well in the middle but it got difficult for England once both Duckett and Pope were sent to the dressing room.
Meanwhile, former England skipper Joe Root got out while playing a reverse slap off speedster Neil Wagner. He was lucky in his first attempt but when he tried to play it again, Daryl Mitchell caught him in the slips.
Ben Stokes too lost his wicket rather early but it was Harry Brook who once again rose to the occasion to help England out of a difficult situation. Playing in his natural avatar, the 23-year-old smashed 89 off 81 deliveries and put the pressure back on the Kiwi bowling unit. Stumper-batter Ben Foakes looked in good touch as well but unfortunately lost his wicket while batting on 38.
No other player managed to step up as England’s batting unit fell like a house of cards. However, soon after, the team management decided to declare the innings at 325. Meanwhile, with the ball, ace pacer Neil Wagner managed to pick up four wickets while skipper Tim Southee and Scott Kuggeleijn picked up two each.
When it came to New Zealand’s batting, they lost three quick wickets before the end of the day’s play. Veteran pacer Jimmy Anderson dismissed Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls while Ollie Robinson took the wicket of Tom Latham.
The Kiwis have managed to put 37 runs on board so far and thus, there’s a lot left on the plate for them at the moment. Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway will be extremely vital for the team and they will hope to make a comeback on Day 2.
Here's how Twitter reacted -
Ideally in this situation, NZ team should park the bus and keep batting for 2 days and adopt an anti Bazball stance also given the English team has budhaus in their bowling line-up

Two younger blokes scoring 80 at 100+ SR, senior pro out reverse-ramping a seamer, declaring in 59th over of day one. Just waiting for Stokes to set a field with 15 slips to complete Bazball bingo

After the Bazball commencement Root’s form has been transferred to Harry Brook.

India is the only place where BazBall can potentially fail.

Places like Aus, SA and NZ have swing and seam help, but they are also tracks with even pace and bounce, which these batters enjoy.
Their attacking shots ensure bowlers don't bowl right lengths to get movement. 🙌
