Twitter Reactions: Paarl Royals continue their winning streak, defeats lacklustre Joburg by five wickets
Paarl Royals are at the top of the table while Joburg are at fifth.
Paarl Royals defeated Joburg Super Kings by five wickets in the ongoing second edition of the SA20. The David Miller-led side is playing some brilliant cricket at the moment and courtesy of the same, they are currently at the top of the points table. With 22 points from six matches, the Royals have more or less cemented their place in the playoffs but will aim to keep up with the winning momentum to challenge for the title.
Joburg, on the other hand, are going through a tough phase at the moment. Skipper Faf du Plessis hasn’t been able to deliver, while the bowlers looked average for almost the entire season so far. With just one win in their bag, Joburg are currently fifth on the points table with six points from the same number of games.
Meanwhile, in the match, the Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first. Joburg’s Reeza Hendricks gave the team a good start as he made 79 runs off 56 deliveries but he got very little support from others in the middle. Leus de Plooy and Moeen Ali tried to shift gears but neither of the cricketers could manage to take it to the next level. With that, Joburg posted 168 runs on the board.
When it came to the chase, Wihan Lubbe and Dane Vilas stole the show. Joburg managed to send the dangerous pair of Jason Roy and Jos Buttler back to the pavilion pretty early in the second innings but that didn’t help them. Batting at number three, Lubbe made 57 runs off 48 deliveries while Vilas hit 42 runs off 26 balls. Their partnership sealed the deal for the visitors as Joburg bowlers failed to put up a show
Lizaad Williams gave away 52 runs in his three overs, which ultimately proved to be too costly for the team. Ahead of the next game, there is a lot of room for improvement for the Faf du Plessis-led side. They need to win the remaining games to qualify for the playoffs.
