Twitter Reactions: Pakistan openers stitch an unbeaten 181 after England post 657 on a flat Rawalpindi pitch
Both Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique are on the verge of scoring a century.
The second day of the first Test match between Pakistan and England at Rawalpindi saw yet another run-fest and this time it was the English team’s turn to face the heat as none of their bowlers could make any impact in the wickets column.
The previous day saw England posting a daunting 506/4 on the board with the famed Pakistan bowling line-up struggling to make any impact on a flat wicket. The visitors’ innings saw four centurions- Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook.
Both teams continue to struggle on the flat Rawalpindi wicket
England lost the key wicket of skipper Ben Stokes who looked well set having scored 41 runs off just 18 deliveries and Liam Livingstone did not last too long either. The Three Lions received a huge setback when Harry Brook was sent back for 153 runs against his name.
At one point in time it appeared as if the visitors might suffer a batting collapse, but it was not to be as Will Jacks (30) and Ollie Robinson (37) made some much-needed lower-order contributions that helped England finish at a mammoth total of 657 runs on the board.
For Pakistan, Zahid Mahmood was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/235 while Naseem Shah (3/140), Mohammad Ali (2/124), and Haris Rauf (1/78) were the other wicket-takers.
It was always going to be a daunting task for Pakistan from thereon and they had to keep the English bowlers in a spot of bother right from the beginning. That is exactly what the hosts did as they made the most of this flat batting surface and used it to their advantage.
The opening pair of Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq tore the English bowling attack and laid a solid foundation with an unbeaten 181-run stand. Pakistan are still trailing by 476 runs and they would be hoping to get close to England’s first innings total when play resumes on the third day.
Here’s how the netizens reacted to both teams’ struggle on the flat Rawalpindi wicket:

That is totally unfair and disrespectful don’t know why he is so underrated despite of performing with all class and proved himself. Imam ul Haq is an immense talent undoubtedly and may he continue to rise for Pakistan 🙏🏻#PAKvENG https://t.co/wvAjHBogk4

This ridiculous and flat pitch and that ball from Haris Rauf to Crawley is one of the best you'd see during this tour! Specially when the batter has already made 100...#PAKvENG #PindiPitch
