Veteran pacer Mohammad Amir struck the early blows as he got the big sharks Mohammad Haris and skipper Babar Azam for a duck. In came the likes of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Haseebullah Khan down the middle-order who got the derailed side back on track.
The duo blazed with the bat as they stitched a vital partnership of 82 runs from 46 balls which tilted the momentum in their favour. Soon after the dismissal of Haseebullah (50 off 29 balls), Rovman Powell joined Cadmore at the crease and the duo added another 85 runs between them which propelled the side to score a mammoth 197 runs on the flat deck in Rawalpindi.
Powell amassed a quick 34-ball 64 whereas Cadmore remained unbeaten with a knock of 56 runs off 45 balls. Meanwhile, Kings’ Amir relished a majestic outing as he scalped a four-wicket haul with impressive bowling figures of 4/26 in his four overs.
Karachi Kings fight valiantly in run chase
In response to the total, the Kings required a solid foundation from its openers in the chase to stay on course for a win. Matthew Wade and Adam Rossington did start well as they got 40 runs between them before the latter was sent packing by Azmatullah Omarzai.
Meanwhile, Wade continued to dominate with the bat as he got the boundaries on numerous occasions. Despite his fight, the rest of the middle order toppled as the side were reduced to 81 for the loss of four wickets.
Azmatullah Omarzai and Mujeeb Ur Rahman kept striking the blows to wrap up the contest. Omarzai and Aamer Jamal returned a three-wicket haul each whereas Mujeeb got two wicket to his name in Peshawar’s much-needed win.
