After losing the first two games in the five-match T20I series against the West Indies, England kept the series alive with a sensational win in the third game by seven wickets, with one ball to spare.

Chasing a huge target of 223, England got off to an ideal start as openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler stitched a 115-run partnership off 69 balls at the National Cricket Stadium in St George's Park, Grenada, on Sunday, December 17. However, West Indies fought back strongly by dismissing the England captain and Will Jacks in consecutive overs. Liam Livingstone came out to bat at No. 4 and his 18-ball 30 kept England in the hunt. Moreover, his partnership of 70 in just 34 balls with Salt helped the tourists stay within touching distance.

Salt got to the magical three-figure mark off just 51 balls in the 18th over, where Jason Holder conceded 20 runs. However, that over also yielded the wicket of Livingstone. Harry Brook, who hadn't been having a great time in the Caribbean ahead of the game, went on to play one of the finest cameos in the history of T20 cricket.

With 31 runs needed off the last 12 balls, Alzarri Joseph bowled a relatively decent penultimate over, conceding just 10 runs. Andre Russell, who had given away 17 runs while defending 28, in the last over, in the second T20I, had 21 in the bank this time.

Harry Brook managed to clip the first delivery for a boundary, evading the short fine-leg fielder. The next ball was hit elegantly for a massive six over cover. The third ball was an attempted yorker from Russell but he failed to execute and it ended up being a full toss. Brook hit it over fine leg for another maximum to bring the equation down to five runs required off three balls. The fourth ball yielded a couple of runs before the talented England batter sliced one over third man for a six to register a famous win for the current T20 World Cup champions.

Brook finished unbeaten on 31 off seven balls, while Salt scored 109 not out off 56 deliveries. Earlier in the day, the West Indies, after being sent in to bat first, lost both their openers cheaply before Nicholas Pooran played a sizzling knock of 82 off 45 balls. The likes of Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford, and the West Indies skipper Rovman Powell played well to take the hosts near the 200-run mark. Jason Holder's 18-run knock off just five balls helped his team finish with a flourish. They would have backed themselves to defend 222 but the England batters had other ideas.

Salt was fittingly adjudged as the Player of the Match for scintillating ton. The series is now tantalizingly poised at 2-1 in favour of the home side. The action shifts to Tarouba, Trinidad for the last two T20Is, the first of them being on Wednesday, December 20.
