South Africa returned to the winning track in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they beat England by a massive margin of 229 runs on Saturday, October 21 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After being put in to bat first, the Proteas posted a massive score of 399/7 in their allotted 50 overs as Heinrich Klaasen scored a breathtaking hundred (109 off 67).
In reply, England were bundled out for 170 in 22 overs as Gerald Coetzee scalped three wickets for South Africa. Courtesy of their win, South Africa are on the third spot on the points table having six points to their name from four matches. On the other hand, England slipped to the ninth spot with just one win from four matches.
Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, South Africa lost the in-form opener Quinton de Kock (4 off 2) on just the second ball of the innings. However, after the early dismissal, Reeza Hendricks (85 off 75) and Rassie van der Dussen (60 off 61) rescued the South African innings with their 121-run stand off 116 balls.

Adil Rashid brought England back in the game by dismissing both the set batters. Captain Aiden Markram played a handy knock of 42 (44) in the middle overs to keep the scoreboard moving. However, it was a breathtaking innings from Heinrich Klaasen (109 off 67) and Marco Jansen (75* off 42) that propelled South Africa to a humongous score. Reece Topley was the pick of the bowlers from England who picked up 3/88 in 8.5 overs.

In the second innings, England got off to a terrible start as they were reduced to 38/4 after 8.1 overs with Jonny Bairstow (10 off 12), Dawid Malan (6 off 11), Joe Root (2 off 6) and Ben Stokes (5 off 8) back in the pavilion.
Captain Jos Buttler (15 off 7) and Harry Brook (17 off 25) also departed cheaply leaving their side staring down the barrel. Cameos from Gus Atkinson (35 off 21) and Mark Wood (43* off 17) took South Africa to 170 in 22 overs as they lost the match by 229 runs. Gerald Coetzee (3/35, 4 overs), Lungi Ngidi (2/26, 5 overs), Marco Jansen (2/35, 5 overs) were among the wickets for South Africa.
