Twitter Reactions: Rachin Ravindra lights up Bengaluru with classy ton against India in first Test
Ravindra and Southee remained unbeaten on 104 and 49 respectively at Lunch on Day 3.
As New Zealand continued to exert pressure on the Indian team on Day 3 of the first Test in Bengaluru, Rachin Ravindra kept taking the game away from the Indians with every stroke. The southpaw ended Day 2 remaining unbeaten on 22 off 34 balls. He started Day 3 with a statement stroke against Mohammed Siraj on the very first ball as he dispatched the leather through mid-wicket for a boundary.
He continued the onslaught as the wickets tumbled at the other end, the visitor's lead swelled. From smashing consecutive boundaries off Kuldeep Yadav to sweeping Ravichandran Ashwin for a flat six over deep mid-wicket, the 24-year-old frustrated the bowlers with his out-of-box approach. He reached his second Test century via a boundary off Ashwin.
The ton would be a special one for Ravindra as he has his roots based in Bengaluru and his family was in attendance to witness his special inning. Just after his partners' Ton, Tim Southee did not hold back and took Ashwin for cleaners, smashing two boundaries and one maximum in the same over. At the end of the first session, New Zealand had put 345 runs on board with 299 runs lead. Ravindra and Southee remained unbeaten on 104 and 49 respectively.
New Zealand managed to score 58 runs in the last four overs before the Lunch and the batters are finding it easy to fetch runs as the pitch is assisting their cause. It is worth noting that, New Zealand have never won a Test in India in 36 years, and they would like to break the jinx in Bengaluru.
