After defeating Sri Lanka Women in the first match, team India continued its good run in the 2022 Women's Asia Cup as they thrashed the Malaysia Women in a rain-curtailed game played at the Sylhet Outer Cricket Stadium on September 3 (Monday).
Speaking about the game, Malaysia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Indian openers including Sabbhineni Meghana and Shafali Verma gave a perfect start to the Women in Blue as they stitched a 100+ runs opening stand.
Meghana was the first one to go after she played a knock of 69 runs. Shafali, on the other hand, continued to play her shots but she could not complete her fifty. After the fall of both the openers, the batting team lost wickets at regular intervals.
Kiran Navgire failed to open her account. Similarly, Radha Yadav stroked two boundaries but was scalped soon. The wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh played a handy knock of 33 runs in just 19 balls which included five fours and one maximum.
Dayalan Hemalatha also hit some lusty blows in the end as team India crossed the 180-run mark in its allotted 20 overs. For Malaysia, Winifred Duraisingam and Nur Dania Syuhada scalped two wickets each.
Malaysia openers failed to get going with the bat
Chasing a big total of 182 runs, Malaysia's openers gave the worst possible start to its team. While Duraisingam could not even open her account as she was scalped by senior spinner Deepti Sharma, the wicketkeeper-batter Wan Julia scored just one run before getting cleaned up by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
The batting side was on 16/2 in 5.2 overs, with batters Mas Elysa (14 runs) and Elsa Hunter (1 run) still at the crease before the rain halted the match. After more than an hour, the match officials decided to call off the match with the Women in Blue winning the encounter by 30 runs as per Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Meghana was adjudged player of the match for her excellent 60+ score.
