The Indian batters put on a show in the fourth T20I at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday, November 15 as Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma slammed exhilarating centuries against a hapless South African bowling line-up.
Samson, who followed up his century in the first T20I with two consecutive ducks in the next two games, got off the mark off the third ball after Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bat first. However, Abhishek Sharma gave an opportunity to Reeza Hendricks at first slip off the first ball he faced but the fielder failed to latch on. This drop proved to be very costly for the Proteas as the Indian opening duo added 73 runs off just 35 balls inside the powerplay.
Abhishek was dismissed by a short delivery from Lutho Sipamla but this brought Tilak Varma, who scored a spectacular century in the last game, to the crease. The two batters added 16 runs off the first 13 balls in their partnership before cutting loose. Keshav Maharaj conceded 19 runs in the ninth over, and this was the beginning of something magical from the two in-form Indian batters.

Samson and Tilak hit boundaries at will as the South Africa bowlers failed to react to the onslaught. Aiden Markram introduced part-timer Tristan Stubbs in the 10th over and Samson welcomed him with two consecutive sixes. Tilak also chipped in with consecutive boundaries as 21 came off the over.
Samson raced to his half-century off just 30 balls in the same over. It seemed as if the two batters were having a range-hitting session in the middle as all the Proteas bowlers disappeared to various part of the ground. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed his third T20I century in five games as he brought up the milestone off just 51 balls. Meanwhile, Tilak was given a reprieve by Marco Jansen when he was batting on 95. The southpaw made the most of it as he scored his second consecutive century in the penultimate over off just 41 balls.
On the back of the duo's remarkable 210-run partnership off 86 deliveries, India finished on an awe-inspiring 283/1 in their 20 overs. Samson finished on 109* off 56 deliveries after hitting six fours and nine sixes. Meanwhile, Tilak remained unbeaten on 120 off 47 balls in a knock which comprised nine fours and 10 sixes. The hosts hit a total of 17 fours and 23 maximums during their sensational batting performance. South Africa will have to bat out of their skins to make a match of this contest and prevent India from winning the series.

From 73 for 1 to 283 for 1, both scored centuries with 200+ strike, playing with pure attacking intent. Rotated the strike, cleared boundaries & entertained everyone. It’s been a joy to watch them 😍😍😍
