Twitter Reactions: Sensational Seifert seals New Zealand’s fate in T20I series against Sri Lanka
New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets to win the T20I series 2-1.
Courtesy of some brilliant batting by Tim Seifert, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka in the third T20I and eventually won the series 2-1. Even though some of the senior pros in the form of Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Michael Bracewell, among many others, are missing at the moment because of IPL 2023, the Black Caps had no problem whatsoever getting over the line against the Asian champions.
Meanwhile, batting first, the Dasun Shanka-led side posted 182 runs on the board after 20 overs. Opener Kusal Mendis was brilliant with the bat, scoring 73 runs off just 48 deliveries while Kusal Perera chipped in with 33 runs off 21 deliveries. Dhanajaya de Silva and Dasun Shanaka later played quick cameos and courtesy of which Sri Lanka put up a healthy score on board. However, they looked at least 15 runs short at the John Davies Oval, as the pitch was tailor-made for the batters to dominate.
In the second innings, the Tom Latham-led side got a perfect start as Tim Seifert wreaked havoc in the middle. Chad Bowes supported him well but unfortunately got out to Lahiru Kumara. However, the 28-year-old did not change the tempo of the game even after the wicket and eventually helped New Zealand win the match by four wickets.
Notably, with the help of three sixes and ten boundaries, Seifert smashed 88 runs off 48 deliveries, and Latham scored 31 runs off 23 balls batting at three. However, soon after they were sent back to the pavilion, there was a bit of panic as both Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman struggled to get going.
New Zealand felt the wrath of Lankan bowlers in the final four overs, with the Kiwis losing three wickets in the final over of the game. However, somehow the side managed to stick together as Adam Milne and Rachin Ravindra ultimately helped the team win the match by four wickets.
