Pakistan and West Indies kicked off the two-match Test series at the Multan Cricket Stadium from January 17. The clash began with Pakistan coming in to bat first after fog delayed the start of the game.
Pakistan openers Shan Masood and Muhammad Hurraira failed to get going after a long wait for coming out to bat as West Indies made a strong start with the ball. Gudakesh Motie sgot skipper Masood for 11 as he edged him behind while Jayden Seales dismissed Hurraira for just six in similar fashion.
Star batter Babar Azam failed to put in a good showing as well, as he was sent packing on a score of eight as he also edged Seales behind. After the top order’s failure, Kamran Ghulam was dismissed cheaply as well after being trapped lbw by Seales.
With a horrid start to the first innings and the entire top order in the pavilion, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan stabilised things for Pakistan as both the batters dug in deep to add an unbeaten 97 runs for the fifth wicket.
While Shakeel stood unbeaten on 56 off 100 deliveries Rizwan remained unbeaten on 51 off 80 at stumps, with Pakistan's score reading 143/4/
After the start of the day was delayed due to the bad weather, both teams will hope for a better day 2. As for the West Indies, Seales was the highest wicket-taker on day 1 with three scalps.

Although the wicket is conducive to spinners, yet its proving good to seam bowlers if they bowl in the right areas and length.… pic.twitter.com/ZVCDIgZrJi
