Bangladesh and New Zealand are currently playing the first match of a two-match Test series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. The home side finished Day 3 with a second-innings lead of 205 runs with seven wickets in hand.

New Zealand began Day 3 on 266/8, still trailing Bangladesh's first-innings score of 310 by 44 runs. Skipper Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson showed great determination and batted for over an hour, forming a partnership of 52 runs for the ninth wicket. However, both of them were dismissed in the same over by Mominul Haque, who finished with a three-for. The Kiwis finished on 317, bagging a slender lead of seven runs.

Bangladesh openers negotiated a 10-over spell of bowling from the Blackcaps to go into Lunch at 19/0. After the break, Ajaz Patel bowled a beautiful delivery to trap Zakir Hasan in front of the stumps for 17. Fellow opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was run out in the next over after a good-looking drive from Najmul Hossain Shanto was deflected back onto the stumps by his opposite number in his follow-through.

After this lucky breakthrough, the tourists struggled to break the third-wicket partnership between Shanto and Mominul. The two southpaws added 90 runs off 162 balls to take Bangladesh out of a precarious position. The former Bangladesh captain was run out for 40, against the run of play, after a misunderstanding with his compatriot.

Bangladesh's most experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim came out to the crease, with the score at 116/3, and forged an unbeaten 96-run partnership with Shanto to take Bangladesh to Stumps on Day 3. The 25-year-old remained unbeaten on 104 off 193 balls, hitting 10 fours in his glorious innings. Mushfiqur finished on 43 not out and will look to convert his start into a big score on Day 4.

Bangladesh's current lead of 205 runs isn't alarming as yet but New Zealand would hope to break this partnership quickly.
