Twitter Reactions: South Africa Women dazzle as Scotland crash out of Women's T20 World Cup

South Africa Women (SA-W) took on Scotland Women (SCO-W) in Match 11 of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, in Dubai, on October 9. South Africa won the toss and opted to bat. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits capitalised on the powerplay and put up a 64-run stand for the first wickets before Wolvaardt departed scoring 40 off 27.

Anneke Bosch ended her short stay of 11 off 13 and Tazmin Britts followed suit scoring 43 off 35 balls. Marizanne Kapp played a quickfire 43 off 24 deliveries and South Africa Women reached the 15-run mark within 18 overs. Sune Luus could not leverage the death overs and remained unbeaten on 18 off 13 as South Africa put 166 runs on board which cost them five wickets.

For Scotland, every bowler other than Abtaha Maqsood picked one wicket each. When they came out for the chase, they lost wickets in quick succession. Their top order of Saskia Horley, Sarah Bryce, Kathryn Bryce, and Ailsa Lister comprised just 20 runs. The middle order too crumbled in front of the Proteas' dominance as none of the batters other than Katherine Fraser crossed the 10-run mark.

South Africa take home big NRR points

They batted till 17.5 overs and could only manage 86 runs losing all of their wickets as South Africa won by a big margin of 80 runs. For the Proteas, Nonkululeko Mlaba dazzled with three wickets, while Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk chipped in with two each. Kapp was named as the Player of the Match for her 43-run knock which included six timely boundaries.

“We did speak about it (NRR) coming into this game, we just felt the best chance to win the game was put a lot of runs on the board. We wanted to be ruthless with the ball and show what we are about,” said Wolvaardt after the game.
