Pakistan once again struggled with the bat in the second T20I against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Usman Khan with his half-century kept the visitors in the hunt in the second innings but the 29-year-old barely received any support from the other end as wickets fell at regular intervals. With that, Pakistan suffered a 13-run defeat and Australia are now leading 2-0 in the series.
Meanwhile, Australia openers gave a brilliant start in the powerplay. Jake Fraser-McGurk departed after scoring 20 runs off nine, while Matthew Short smashed 32 runs off 17 deliveries. The hosts were forced to change the tempo after that as Pakistan bowlers made a good comeback. Captain Josh Inglis departed without opening his tally while Glenn Maxwell made only 21 runs off 20.
Both Marcus Stoinis and Tim David struggled in the middle, despite being known for their finishing abilities. Stoinis scored scored only 14 off 15 while David made 18 runs off 19. After that, Aaron Hardie played an important knock of 28 runs as Australia posted 147 runs in the first innings.
Pakistan lost early wickets in the chase. Star batter Babar Azam made only three while opening the batting as Sahibzada Farhan departed for five coming at number three. Captain Mohammad Rizwan soon followed suit, having scored 16 runs off 26 deliveries. The visitors were reduced to 44/4 and it was a mountain to climb for them to get the job done.
Usman came in the hunt and after his dismissal, it was believed that the game was over for Pakistan. However, Irfan Khan played a remarkable cameo of 37* runs off 28 deliveries but it wasn’t enough, resulting in a defeat. Meanwhile, ace pacer Spencer Johnson was terrific for the team, picking up a five-wicket haul, which got the job done for the hosts. Spinner Adam Zampa was very effective as well, picking up two and conceding only 19 runs in four overs.
