Ben Stokes' England made it six wins on the bounce after rolling over New Zealand in the Test series opener at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The writing was on the wall for the hosts after a horrid third session on the third day of the opening Test match of the series. Daryl Mitchell's fighting half-century only delayed the inevitable after veteran pacer James Anderson ran riot in the first session of the fourth day.
The third day of the Test series opener saw the visitors set a challenging total of 394 runs for the home side. But it was the formidable bowling pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, a partnership that was incepted in the very same country in 2008, who stood in the way of the Kiwis. Broad was rampant with the pink ball in the third session, accounting for three of the top four New Zealand batters.
James Anderson reaches another milestone after a fiery spell on Day 4
He added a fourth soon after, reducing the home side to 63/5 at the end of play on Day 3. The English bowlers were relentless, and it took them just 16 deliveries to make further inroads in the Kiwi batting lineup on the fourth day after Jack Leach sent Michael Bracewell packing. It was the Anderson show from thereon as the veteran pacer reached another milestone when he trapped Scott Kuggeleijn in front of the wicket.
Kuggeleijn's dismissal was Anderson's 250th Test wicket away from home. The veteran pacer, who turns 41 later this year, ensured England's first victory in New Zealand since 2008 after returning with spectacular bowling figures of 4/18. Ben Stokes' side are looking unbeatable at the moment, winning ten of the 11 matches since his appointment as the skipper in 2022. England's dashing batter Harry Brook was named the player of the match for his blitz with the bat.

That "Bazball" is a runaway success but is completely loathed as a term by its progenitor, is a pretty neat way to sum up how utterly nuts this Eng mens Test team are rnow. #NZvENG
